Moscow Metro launches contactless instant payment service with support from Google and Mastercard

Moscow Metro has partnered with VTB, a leading Russian financial institution, and Google to launch a new payment service.

Users with the Google Pay payment service and a Mastercard card can now instantly pay for their metro ride: they just need to hold their smartphone above the reader at the turnstiles.

In the near future, the new functionality will also be available to cardholders of other payment systems offered in the Russian version of Google Pay.

A variety of other e-payment methods are in use in the city’s metro, including Apple Pay, China Union Pay, Huawei Pay, MIR Pay, Samsung Pay, and others. Going further, Moscow Metro recently announced the introduction of a facial payment technology.
