Kaspersky Lab plans to supply mobile OS for enhanced protection

Smartphones with a Kaspersky-made operating system for enhanced security will appear next year, said Kaspersky Lab founder Eugene Kaspersky in an exchange with RIA Novosti.  His company partners with an unnamed Chinese smartphone maker.

These smartphones with the Kaspersky operating system will have basic applications and its own browser. They are intended for specific types of use: “Our task has been to create a secure phone that is virtually impossible to hack for processing secret and confidential information. It can be used in state administrations, enterprises, and infrastructure management,” Kaspersky said.

“Now we have two or three dozen ‘pilot projects’ both in Russia and other Russian-speaking countries as well as in Europe and Asia,” Kaspersky was quoted as saying.  “We are already ready to supply is an OS for the Internet of Things for industrial and any other use. OS for phones and tablets will be ready next year.”

Kaspersky said he is “dreaming” of smartphones with a dual OS system: one OS provided by his company for types of use requiring high protection, and a standard OS for common use.

For the moment, the Kaspersky OS is not associated with any application store, since Kaspersky does not aim to compete with App Store and Google Play.

“Most likely, first we will make our application store, then we’ll be ready to attract other ones. We understand that this project will not take off without a large ecosystem, so we are ready to attract partners,” said Kaspersky.
