Russia’s Mail.ru Group and China’s iDreamSky form games partnership

iDreamSky Technology Holdings, a Tencent-backed Chinese video game publisher, and My.Games, the game unit of LSE-listed Mail.ru Group, announced a long-term partnership to expand their global presence.

As reported by Reuters, the two partners will work on cross publishing games in their respective domestic markets. They are currently working on bringing to China ‘War Robot,’ one of the most successful games in Mail.ru Group’s portfolio. War Robot’s entry in China is subject to pending license approval, the companies said without disclosing any investment figures.

A dominant player on the Russian gaming scene

Mail.Ru Group opened a game division back in 2007, aiming to unite top Russian gaming studios and teams and become the number one gaming business in Russia.

In 2016 the group acquired game developer and publisher Pixonic for $30 million. New acquisitions were made until recently. As a result, the group is a leader on the Russian gaming market with a portfolio that includes dozens of MMOs, social and mobile games.

In 2017, the group created ‘Mail.Ru Games Ventures’ (MRGV), a new division to invest in game development, technology and marketing worldwide with a $100 million budget. That same year, Mail.ru Group joined Alibaba’ global games distribution plan as a partner.
