Continent TV looks to HD

The Russian DTH platform Continent TV is making a major push into HD, giving subscribers the opportunity to watch 10 channels in the format free of charge for a year.

According to the platform, it will broadcast the channels in test mode next month and in January, during which time they will be available to active subscribers of its Classic package.

The commercial launch of the 10 channels will take place in February, and subscribers to Continent TV and its sister service Telekarta who order a HD receiver for 500 rubles (€11.8) will be able to watch the channels for free for a year.

However, the offer will only be valid in parts of the country that can receive signals from the Horizons-2 satellite and therefore not guaranteed in a number of oblasts (federal regions) including Leningrad, Novosibirsk, Arkhangel and Irkutsk.

As of Q1 2012, Continent TV’s offer will consist of over 100 channels, including 10 in HD.
