Microsoft to supply Sochi Olympics in 2014

Moscow – The Russian office of Microsoft Corporation has signed a supply agreement with the organizing committee of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Microsoft reported in a recently published news release. Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft will provide the organizers of the Olympics with software and services particularly for the technical infrastructure of the Games.

Microsoft will also provide the organizing committee and other partners of the Olympics with access to its technology development platform, the so-called Microsoft Technology Center.

The terms of the contract between Microsoft and the organizers of the Olympics have not been disclosed. However, president of the organizing committee Dmitry Chernyshenko said previously that the cost of vendor contracts would start at $1 million, Russian daily Vedomosti reported.

Microsoft was an organizing partner at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, which explains why the company’s experience will be particularly important for the Russian committee, Chernyshenko added.

Alongside Microsoft, the list of international partners of the 2014 Winter Olympics includes Coca-Cola, Atos Origin, Dow Chemical, Omega, Panasonic, Procter & Gamble, Samsung and Visa.
