East-West Digital News is the brainchild of a group of Russian and Western professionals with thorough knowledge of the Russian IT and mobile fields as well as strong startup, media and journalistic experience.

They are assisted by a team of native English-speaking staff of editors with a wide range of writing and editorial experience united by professionalism and dedication to maintaining quality on the level of a global class news & information organization.

EWDN enjoys a unique academic-business partnership with Moscow’s Higher School of Economics and is the co-founder of an advanced buiness internship program for exceptional students in HSE’s faculties of Business Informatics and Media Communications.

Adrien Henni

Adrien Henni, Editor-in-Chief

Adrien Henni, 39, has 12 years of experience working with Internet and mobile businesses in France and Russia. He served as a consultant at Wcube, a leading French web agency, in 1998-1999. In 2000 he founded People-to-People Technologies, a pioneer in online social networking, built in partnership with a Russian software developer. In 2009-2010, Adrien was Senior investment manager at Direct Group, a Moscow-based Western investment company, where he contributed to the development of leading Russian Internet projects.

Mr Henni brings a rich background in journalism to EWDN. In the mid-90s, he covered Russia for a range of French publications, including popular scientific magazines La Recherche, Science & Vie, and others. He also launched Your Health, an ad-funded bulletin designed for Moscow’s expat community and tourists. He is a distinguished graduate of the Paris Institute for Political Sciences. He speaks English and Russian almost as well as his native French.

Mr Henni currently lives in Moscow where he represents FaberNovel, a French-American consulting and engineering innovation agency. He advises a variety of startups and IT-related organizations.

Alexander Baderko

Alexander Baderko, Development director

Alexaner Baderko, 37, is a serial Internet project developer and startup veteran. Alexander comes with a strong command of both business and technological experience. From 2005 to 2007, as Development director at Sneg Media, he took an important part in the concept design and business development of Odnoklassniki.ru, which quickly became a leading Russian social network.

Since 2008, Mr Baderko has developed and managed Koolinar.ru, a cooking site, which was acquired by a leading Russian publishing house less than one year after its launch. Mr Baderko has also played a prominent role in many projects including Byhand.ru, Imhonet.ru, and Piggiebank.ru. He is a graduate of the Stankin State Technological University in Moscow.

Thomas Hulbert

Thomas Hulbert, Senior editor

Thomas Hulbert, 43, is an American entrepreneur, writer and consultant. He has more than 10 years of editorial experience in the US, the Netherlands and in Russia and brings a broad understanding of corporate media relations. He has been a developer and editor of corporate educational materials, a contributing author to journals in the sphere of culture and content manager of numerous publications. From 2002 to 2005, he served as a consultant – editor with the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, a Russian defense industry think tank and publisher of Eksport Vooruzheniy and the Moscow Defense Brief.

Since 2004, Mr Hulbert has worked as a freelance editor and translator for InfoMost Communications is the sphere of corporate press release and IR media for major players in the Russian aviation, mining and metals and real estate development sectors. He has been an editorial consultant to leading Russian agro-industrial firms, investment banks, outdoor advertising, mass media corporations and other businesses.

In 2006 he launched an MBA admissions consulting startup that has placed Russian and CIS professionals from IB, consulting, IT and other sectors in top business schools worldwide. Mr Hulbert is an honors graduate of California State University, Chico, where he majored in the Humanities, Communications and Philosophy.

Andrew Zotov

Andrew Zotov, Strategic advisor

Andrew Zotov, 54, is considered one of the founding fathers of the Russian Internet. In 1996, he founded and chaired ROCIT, a prominent non-profit organization for the advancement of Internet technologies. In 1997, he founded RIF (Russian Internet Forum), Russia’s leading industry event to date, and served as one of its main representatives until 2004. He continues to be active in a range of industry organizations.

Over the past 18 years, Mr Zotov has held top management positions at Russian and multinational IT companies as well as investment funds. He has founded and co-owned several successful start-ups. Recently he has worked as project manager and consultant in venture investments, business acquisitions, corporate restructuring and M&A projects, with over 50 completed projects since 2005. Mr Zotov holds an MSc from the Moscow Institute of Electronic Industry, and a Ph.D. in computer science.

Elena Mikhaylova, 39, has received her education from three top institutions around the globe: St-Petersburg State University, MSSES/Manchester University (UK) and the Franklin W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College (USA). She has managed diverse businesses for over 15 years while living in Russia, Costa-Rica, and the United States. Currently, she owns a social media marketing company based in Denver, Colorado, teaches at a continuing education university, and writes about Internet business and financial deals on a daily basis for several US media.

Ekaterina Preobrazhenskaya, 21, is a student at Moscow’s Higher School of Economics in the Faculty of Media Communications. She graduated from the Perm Branch of Moscow’s Higher School of Economics, specializing in financial management, investor relations, and corporate governance.

Diana Imamgaiazova, 22, is a student at Moscow’s Higher School of Economics in the Faculty of Media Communications and at the Russian Financial and Economics Institute in the Faculty of Finance. She previously graduated from the Bashkortostan State University, where she earned a degree in Public Relations. Diana also worked for Kommersant, a leading Russian business publication group.

Susan Adkins

Susan worked for three years in NYC as a technical writer, writing and editing software-related documentation for Thomson Reuters. Prior to that, she held positions as a paralegal in an immigration law firm and research assistant for a grant proposal writer. She studied at the University of North Texas, where she earned a BA in English literature and an MA in technical writing.

Sean McPharlin

Sean McPharlin, 40, writer, editor and filmmaker, has 18 years of experience as a writer and editor, primarily in the sphere of screenwriting for film and television. He was a co-writer of the feature film I’ll believe you… and has written many other screenplays. He has worked as a script editor for 20th Century Fox and has been a content provider for established websites and start-ups, as well as editorial experience in the legal sphere. Sean graduated with honors from Pomona College in Claremont, California, where he earned a degree in Anthropology. He lives in San Francisco.

Dmitry Chernichin

Dmitry Chernichin

Dmitry Chernichin is a 4th year student at Moscow’s Higher School of Economics in the faculty of Business Informatics. He is a graduate of the Lyceum of Information Technologies, where he researched telecommunications networks. Dmitry also joined the ‘Escapes from Modernity’ Project as a collaborator for the Winter School in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. His professional interests focus on e-commerce and telecommunications issues.

Olga Golovina is a 4th year student at Moscow’s Higher School of Economics in the faculty of Business Informatics. She participated as a collaborator in the Third Spring School World 2.0 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, which was organized by HSE and the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at Erfurt University. She wrote research works on psychology, sociology, and information systems.

Nikita Iserson is a 3rd year student at Moscow’s Higher School of Economics in the faculty of Business-Informatics and has twice been listed at the top of HSE’s academic ranking in 2009 and 2010. In 2009 he won the first place in the management section of HSE’s Academic Olympiad, for which he was awarded the Alpha Bank Alpha-Chance Fellowship. He is a student instructor in economics and programming in HSE’s SCBI forum. Among his professional interests are information systems, e-commerce, finance, information security and problem-based learning.

Svetlana Kazantseva is a 4th year student at Moscow’s Higher School of Economics in the faculty of Business-Informatics, where she is a member of a student project researching quantitative analytical methodologies for retail networks management. She is an active member of the faculty’s Business in Style.ru forum and HSE’s business incubator HSE Inc. She is currently a CRM assistant with Renault Russia.

Dmitry Kudishin

Dmitry Kudishin

Dmitry Kudishin is a 4th year student at Moscow’s Higher School of Economics in the faculty of Business-Informatics and a Microsoft Student Partner. He was awarded the Presidential Prize for Talented Youth in conjunction with winning the All-Russian Olympiad for Social Science in 2009. Currently Dmitry is a student leader and technology instructor at the Microsoft User Group Program where he gives workshops and advises on programming development. He is a student instructor in programming languages in HSE’s SCBI forum.
