Russian IP video surveillance software company signs $15 million contract in Bahrain

Macroscop, a Russian startup developing software for IP videocameras, signed earlier this month one of its first international contracts with Bahrain’s MHS-Technologies.

The Russian company’s technology will be used in the business, defense, security and other sectors in Bahrain under a contract that amounts to $15 million, according to the Skolkovo Foundation.

The software will help perform a range of functions, from preventing vehicle thefts and tracing missing luggage to recognizing car registration plates and even sabotage prevention.

Macroscop CEO and co-founder Artem Razumkov said the company’s technology could identify up to 65,000 people in a crowd in real time.

“The system helps count people in malls, factories, banks, hospitals and big buildings, and notify the user if the number of people in a certain area has exceeded its limit,” Gulf Daily News quoted Razumkov as saying.

Launched in 2010, award-winning Macroscop is a resident company of Skolkovo, the international innovation hub under construction on the outskirts of Moscow. The startup claims that its software currently supports nearly 10,000 IP video surveillance systems in Russia, the CIS, Western and Eastern Europe, totaling more than 100,000 cameras.

Last week Razumkov announced that the co-founders took back full control of the company by acquiring the 51% stake which was held by the Perm Region Venture Fund for Investment in High-tech SMBs. Launched by the regional authorities, this fund is managed by Allianz Investments.
