Report: Russian e-commerce severely hampered by HR shortages

The lack of qualified human resources appears to be the most difficult issue faced by the fast growing e-commerce industry in Russia, says a report by East-West Digital News. All key positions are affected, from general managers and project managers, to e-marketing specialists to IT and fulfillment teams.

The shortage of skilled employees on the market drives rapidly growing salaries – $10,000 per month or more for certain positions – and increases competition between employers for available employees. As a result, important positions may be filled with insufficiently skilled employees, or left vacant for months. Some Moscow companies try to recruit in the regions, or abroad, the study shows, based on interviews with dozens of market players and recruitment agencies.

Oliver Samwer

“Our team fucked up in Russia, I lost tons of money,” says Lamoda.ru’s German owner Oliver Samwer

In a confidential email sent in October to his management team revealed yesterday by TechCrunch, Oliver Samwer, the co-founder of German incubator Rocket Internet, had crude words for the management of Lamoda.ru, the online shoe retailer he launched in Russia earlier this year.

“Our team fucked up in Russia,” wrote Samwer, complaining that Lamoda.ru failed to become number one in the country – a reference to Lamoda’s competition with Sapato.ru, launched in 2010, which remains the most recognized brand in this market segment in spite of Lamoda’s repeated marketing assaults.

ResumUp

St. Peterburg startup aims to set a new global standard for online résumés

Created from the ground up less than half a year ago, ResumUp has suddenly assumed a presence on the Russian startup scene. From a “pretty obvious idea” – building infographic résumés using data from social media profiles – ResumUp aims at no less than “setting a new standard in career management, online and social recruiting,” said 33 year old St. Petersburg entrepreneur and ResumUp founder Eugene Barulin in an exchange with East-West Digital News.

The future will determine the prescience of Barulin’s ambitions on the global market for online job search and career management, but it is already undeniable that ResumUp technology, developed in just a few months, offers an amazing user experience with no major bugs.
