Video surveillance tech provider Ivideon secures $8 million to pursue international development

Ivideon, a Russian startup that has developed a cloud-based video surveillance technology, has raised $8 million from Rusnano Sistema SICAR and Skolkovo Ventures, according to a joint statement published yesterday.

The company intends to use the funding to enlarge its development team and boost its international marketing effort.

The Ivideon system is designed to work with any existing cameras including those on personal computers and laptops. The cameras capture video and audio from a given environment and upload the data to Ivideon’s cloud storage system. The client can access the cloud server remotely through a mobile device and view the images live.

This technology also includes such features as video stream analysis to identify events – such as a movement in a supposedly empty office, – face detection, etc.

Founded in 2010, Ivideon received backing from Philips and Samsung at the early stages of its development. The startup secured $4 million from Impulse VC in 2014 and established an office in California two years later.

Among Ivideon’s clients are Philips, Honeywell, Google, Acronis, Gett, MegaFon, Yandex.Taxi, to cite only the most renowned ones. The young company now controls around 30% of the Russian video surveillance market, according to Sergey Vakhterov of Rusnano Sistema SICAR.

SICAR was founded in 2016 by Sistema, a major Russian conglomerate, and Rusnano, the state-owned corporation focusing on nanotechnology investment. Among SICAR’s portfolio companies is Apis Cor, a startup that offers a 3D printing technology for the construction industry.

Ivideon is the first investment of Skolkovo Ventures. This group of funds launched last year with support from Skolkovo, the international tech hub under completion on the outskirts of Moscow, and RVC, the state-owned fund of fund supporting innovation. Skolkovo Ventures has also received the support of major Russian corporations.
