Russian investors bet on companies using space technologies

Two Russian serial entrepreneurs Mikhail Kokorich and Vadim Makhov have launched a joint investment firm to support B2B companies that use space technologies, Russian business publication Kommersant reported on April 24.

Makhov holds a 51% stake in the company, while Kokorich has received a 49% share.

Dubbed ‘Oden Holdings Limited,’ the company will target projects in the fields of space technology, digital agriculture, the Internet-of-Things and smart insurance, among others.

According to Makhov, the firm has already invested in two businesses: Canadian Internet-of-Things startup Helios Wire and Russian farm management software startup Exact Farming.

Kokorich is a co-founder of Astro Digital, a California-based startup which develops open APIs for satellite imagery, and the founder of Dauria Aerospace, a company which aims to “transform the industry with a cloud-based, low-cost satellite technology solution,” among other projects.

Makhov is the head of the international investment fund Bard Worldwide, which specializes in growth investment.

In late 2017, Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, launched its own venture fund to support space innovation in Russia.
