St. Petersburg’s iDealMachine ranked third among world’s university accelerators

iDealMachine, a venture fund and startup accelerator hosted by ITMO, a major university in St. Petersburg, was ranked third among 330 university business accelerators from 64 countries, according to UBI Global.  The awarding ceremony took place on October 27 in Turin, Italy.

Based in Stockholm, UBI Global presents itself as a “thought leader in performance analysis of business incubation around the world.” Its benchmark network encompasses more than 400 university managed or associated business incubators and accelerators in over 70 countries.

The UBI Global ranking takes into account the value of an accelerator for the innovation ecosystem, its efficiency for its resident companies, and its attractiveness.

“Being among the top business accelerators enables us to attract new partners and expand our contacts, which may in turn help our portfolio companies enter the European market. We have received suggestions to establish a business accelerator in Europe and are studying them,” said iDealMachine General Manager Alfia Muhametova.

iDealMachine was launched in early 2012 by ITMO and US venture fund RSV Venture Partners. So far the accelerator has supported 23 startups, the majority of which attracted further venture funding.

The startup incubator of Ingria, a St. Petersburg technopark, was also distinguished in the UBI Global ranking.
