Russian firm combines gaming and digital TV in new device, calls developers’ participation

Russia’s GS Group, an internationally oriented Russian tech company whose key activities include developing technologies for digital TV, has unveiled a prototype of a device that combines the functionality of a game console and a digital HD receiver. The company has called out the gaming community to unite in driving this technology forward.

The device was first presented to the professional community at the CSTB 2015 exhibition and evoked interest among telecom experts. The console enables video games to be displayed on the TV as well as watching various channels in HD.

The product conforms to the popular concept of advanced TV viewing aimed at deep involvement by means of additional services, the “second screen” and other options.

“Our project is unique for the Russian market, which was evidenced by the high interest from the game studios in the course of the event. We’ve spent both conference days in active discussion about features of the new console by GS Group and prospects for cooperation with game developers. We’ve also arranged a few meetings to further clarify the terms of cooperation,” comments Tatiana Mikhalevskaya, a project manager at GS Group.

The new console is close in technical characteristics to the flagship models of modern mobile device manufacturers, which support today’s games. The console has a high performance CPU and a powerful graphics accelerator.

The gaming platform for the new device is currently being developed by GS Group in cooperation with Sperasoft, an international video game developer with Russian roots. The Sperasoft specialists will provide support for developers for correct and rapid adaptation of their gaming customers to the gaming platform.
