Ulmart enters the travel market

Perhaps inspired by the success of Ozon Travel, Ulmart, Russia’s leading online retailer, has officially announced its entry into a new field of activity: Ulmart Travel.

According to online publication Oborot.ru, Ulmart is starting out with the standard selection of offerings: search, reservation and purchase of airline tickets. It plans to broaden its scope of services substantially, however.

Sindbad.ru is partnering with Ulmart on the technical side, including integration with global systems and contracts with the airlines.

“In the future, we want to implement a general platform for ordering railroad tickets, reserving hotel rooms and purchasing package tours,” Ulmart CEO Sergey Fedorinov said. “We plan to create a personalized tour service.”

Fedorinov claims that the site has a customer base of more than 10 million users.

Ulmart is also expanding its offer to digital content, East-West Digital News reported recently. The site has invested a hefty $6,5 million in e-book company Bookmate and music platform Zvooq, with plans to roll out Bookmate’s content across Ulmart’s customer base.

In 2013 Ulmart became Russia’s number one online retailer with more than $1 billion in revenues – or about $685 million, including VAT, if taking into account only online sales, according to a recent ranking by Data Insight, EWDN and Enter Vision.
