Acronis has invested $10 million to open Moscow development center

Acronis, an international provider of data backup software and disaster recovery solutions, has opened a development center in Moscow, Acronis Labs, following a $10 million investment.

Headed by Acronis co-founder Maxim Lyadvinsky, Acronis Labs Moscow will engage in market research and improving the efficiency of existing technologies, innovation and intellectual property protection. Acronis’ General Director Sergei Belousov says that the Moscow center will “in particular, deal with patenting the company’s products.” The center will also cooperate with local universities and startups.

Overall, the company intends to dramatically increase its presence on the Russian market. Mobile and cloud based solutions are now the company’s focus, and Acronis’ mobile solutions will be introduced in Russia in January 2014. Today, Acronis’ turnover in Russia on the data backup market is $70 million, while the country’s total storage software market reaches $168 million.
