Online consumer goods testing platform raises $1 million from Moscow business angels

Product Test, a project aimed at testing and giving expert evaluations of consumer products, has announced that it received approximately $1 million from Moscow serial angel investor Igor Ryabenkiy and four other business angels.

Conceived as a platform to test consumer goods including electronics and household goods, Product Test buys the products it assesses rather than receiving them directly from the manufacturer. According to the project’s founders, this should ensure the correctness of tests. The site also plans to add related services, from assessments of the price and quality of goods to a calorie counter.

The investors’ money will be spent on testing and bringing traffic to site. Today the site’s test base has more than 350 products.

Similar platforms already exist in Russia, most of them focusing on particular product categories like computing and financial devices for example. An industry expert interviewed by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti raised the question of whether one resource can manage to gather together such a mismatched public.
