IDCEE 2013: Kiev meeting point for US tech veterans, Eastern European startups, global VCs – and Brazilian guitar players

Since its inception in 2010, Kiev’s IDCEE has asserted itself as the leading tech event for Central and Eastern Europe’s investors and startups (see last year’s report by East-West Digital News).

A rare phenomenon in such events, investors – coming from all parts of Europe and from as far away as the USA and India – come even more numerous than startup entrepreneurs. This year, the organizers expect some 2,500 participants to attend the event, including representatives from 150 startups and 300 investors with a total of $30 billion under management.

This year’s edition will take place on Oct. 10 and 11 in a new venue – the Olympiyskiy sports complex in the city center – and feature a new stream, the Tech Stage, dedicated to CTOs of global web companies.

“Our mission is to develop IT entrepreneurship”, says TA Venture’s Viktoriya Tigipko, who organizes IDCEE. “It can stem only through the synergy of business approaches and tech solutions. We’ve created the Tech Stage for business leaders and CEOs-to-be of web companies, and we want developers to get more inserted into business networks.”

Among the tech leaders who will share their experience at the Tech Stage are PHP creator Rasmus Lerdorf, Microsoft’s Mark Zbikowski, who has been a key developer of several Windows versions, and Amazon’s Technical Evangelist Steffen Krause, as well as Stas Khirman, a former Kiev citizen, now CTO of Deutsche Telecom Hosted Business Services.

As in previous years, IDCEE’s Main Stage and Startup Stage will host more than 50 speakers, including Alan Patricof (Greycroft Partners), Mark Tluszcz (Mangrove Capital), Jason Bigler (Google’s display ads business in EMEA), Alexander Zacke (Auctionata), Sina Afra (Markafoni) and many, many more.

Last year’s edition gathered over 2,000 participants from dozens of countries.

The Main Stage will also feature eight panel discussions, highlighting the most recent trends in mobile and online payments, online education, venture activity, accelerators, e-commerce, and online food delivery, in partnership with East-West Digital News.

Two regional panels will be dedicated to Central and Eastern Europe and Brazil.

The conference will be opened by one of the most enigmatic and colorful Ukrainian singers, Katia Chilly. During the evening, all guests will have an opportunity to taste Ukrainian national cuisine. The second day will be dedicated to Brazil, so the star of the night will be a legendary Brazilian musician and guitar player Filo Machado.
