Report: Russian cloud market to top $460 million by 2016

Russia’s public and private ‘cloud’ computing service market mushroomed a healthy 417.3% last year to reach $59.38 million and is poised to continue to burgeon in increments of over 50% a year, IDC Russia/CIS reports in its most recent Cloud Services Market 2012–2016 Forecast and 2011 Competitive Analysis research.

In 2011, the IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) segment was in robust demand, the analysts say; it accounted for 49.6% of public ‘cloud’ services, immediately followed by SaaS’ 46.8% and leaving the PaaS (Platform as a Service) segment far behind with just 3.6%. Public ‘clouds’ received a reported $27.35 million in investment last year, including $3.1 million for services offered as part of a virtual private ‘cloud’ design.

IaaS purchases drove explosive growth in private services as well, accounting for more than 75% of customers’ $32.03 million investment in private ‘clouds,’ according to IDC.

Russian companies such as Croc, Parking.ru and Softline provided most of the IaaS service in public ‘clouds,’ while HP, I-Teco and IBM were reportedly in the lead in the private ‘cloud’ segment.

Most popular SaaS solutions in Russia last year were built on products provided by Microsoft, Salesforce.com and Google, as well as a group of Russian suppliers including Megaplan, Korus Consulting, Softline, CT Consulting and Moy Sklad.

IDC Russia/CIS expects Russia’s ‘cloud’ service market to swell at a hearty CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 50.8%, faster than the rest of IT services, and to top $460 million by the end of 2016.
