Odnoklassniki.ru continues expansion outside Russia

By the end of this year, Odnoklassniki.ru, a leading Russian social networking site, will offer localized versions to its Uzbek, Armenian, Georgian and Moldavian audiences. The news was announced yesterday by Alexander Izryadnov, an executive at the Mail.Ru Group, the LSE-listed Russian Internet group that owns the website.

Uzbek-speaking users will be served first, within the next few weeks, with the site’s mobile interface translated into the Uzbek language and made available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7. The mobile version of the Russian site is even more popular than the web version among its two million Uzbek users, Mail.ru Group noted.

Odnoklassniki is the leading social network in this Central Asian republic, while Facebook currently attracts only 127,000 users in Uzbekistan, according to Mail.ru Group.
