Siemens and NIS GLONASS team up to track and fine trucks for damages to Russian roads

NIS GLONASS, the Russian national provider of satellite navigation services, announced yesterday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Siemens to create an automated system to fine trucks which damage federal roads by exceeding a 12 ton weight limit.

Although April 1, 2013 has already been announced as the launch date, no contractor has been enrolled yet to implement the project.

But Siemens and NIS-Glonass have already created and tested the device to be installed in trucks, which includes registration, speed control, fine calculation and billing functions as well as a GLONASS/GPS receiver.

Siemens and NIS GLONASS already participate in a similar project in Belarus.
