Russian-American game publisher attracts $1 million to assert itself on social games market

TMT Investment announced last week it will invest $1 million in a 20% stake in Berryman Capital Group (BCG), a developer of online games for social networks.

TMT Investment is an international investment company based in Jersey and run by Russian businessmen focused on technology and media investment. The deal, which includes other conditions for BCG and its existing shareholders, is expected to be completed in September 2011.

BCG’s fully owned subsidiary, Creat Studio, is an internationally renowned publisher of online, console and handheld games. Founded in St. Petersburg in 1990, the company has its headquarters in Canton, Massachusetts, and development studios in Canton and St. Petersburg. Creat has participated as an outsourcer in the production of global gaming successes like SimCity, The Sims and Civilization. Among its own branded games is the international hit American Chopper, notes Russian business daily Vedomosti.

BCG will use the investment proceeds to launch social games on Russian and international networks and to expand its distribution channels to include mobile platforms such as iOS and Android.

But BCG – whose presence on the social games market is still weak, according to Vedomosti – could have difficulties gaining more solid footing in a market dominated by such giants as Zynga.

Pixonic, a leading Russian social game publisher, raised $5 million in May, 2011, to develop social games on the Russian and international markets.
