Stanford students to study Russian telematics success story

Russian Navigation Technologies (RNT) announced last week that the story of its formation and growth has been included as a business case study at Stanford and a number of other US universities.

RNT is Russia’s largest manufacturer and integrator of telematics systems and a leader on the Russian fleet management systems market. Its Auto Tracker technology supports both the GLONASS and GPS navigation systems.

American students will now be able to learn how this innovative Russian start-up was launched and grew into a successfully developing multinational business, and is currently preparing for an IPO.

The RNT business case was also included – with four other Russian companies – in the Global Entrepreneurship and the Successful Growth Strategies of Early-Stage Companies report, which was presented at the Davos World Economic Forum 2011.

According to RNT Executive Director Ivan Nechaev, the success of the company is due primarily to its strict adherence to the classic development model for an innovative business, engaging the resources of the “venture capital investments pipeline” in Russia and fully exploiting the market potential of the GLONASS project.

RNT also received support from the Russian government via its affiliated financial structures VTB, a leading bank, and the Russian Venture Company (RVC), the fund of funds dedicated to fostering innovation in Russia.

“The RNT example is a convincing demonstration that Russia has everything needed to develop world-class high-tech business projects,” said Yan Ryazantsev, RVC’s Director of Investments. “This is not some kind of a unique set of circumstances, but rather a case of consistent application of proven technology,” he added, calling Russian universities and companies to take advantage of this experience too.
