New Israeli-Russian joint venture to design semiconductor chips in Russia

Tamir Fishman-CIG, a leading Israeli financial group, and the Russian Venture Company (RVC), the state-owned fund dedicated to fostering innovation in Russia, have invested over $6 million in a new joint venture to design a new ASIC semiconductor chip in Russia.

The joint venture will benefit from the technologies of Mobix Wireless Solutions (MWS), an Israeli company developing advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and smart grid solutions.

MWS has designed, in particular, a patented technology called n-DNet, defined as “fusing PLC and RF communications into a virtual dynamic 3D network.” The company claims that only such a dual solution “can provide the required reliability and scalability of today’s AMI deployments.”

The newly established joint venture, called Mobix Chip LLC, will further develop the n-DNet technology and deliver it on the semi-conductor level. The product will “enable better communications reliability and scalability while maintaining leading standards and improved security protocols,” say the companies, with “drastically reduced” costs.

“The international market for smart meter infrastructure technologies is extremely hot now due to new regulations pertaining to the management of electric grid balance and gas/water efficiency management,” commented Daniel Gimpel, Managing Director of the Tamir Fishman-CIG venture fund.

The joint venture is to become “a leading designer of microchips for global markets in the near future,” hopes Yan Ryzantezev, Director of Investments for RVC.
