MTS and MasterCard launch new credit card

MTS, a leading Russian mobile operator and retailer, announced last Friday the launch of co-branded MasterCard credit cards under the name of MTS Dengi (“MTS Money” in Russian). The cards are being issued by the Moscow Bank for Reconstruction and Development (MBRD).

Applications for the cards can be requested at MTS outlets in Moscow and in a few months should be available across Russia. Customers can immediately receive a standard, non-nominative MasterCard card, or nominative MasterCard Standard or MasterCard Gold cards within 10 days.

A 40,000 ruble credit limit (approximately $1,400) can be made available immediately. The limit can be increased to 600,000 rubles ($21,050) within 15 days. The annual rate comes to 23% after a 51-day discount period. Card holders maintaining a positive account balance will be eligible for an interest of 5% annually.

Card holders will receive offers for free telecommunications services or mobile content with each purchase made with the card.

MTS is the first operator in Russia to offer such a card, says the company.
