US magazine identifies Russia’s 10 most innovative companies

After compiling a list of the “Top 50 Most Innovative Companies” worldwide last month, which included Yandex and Kaspersky Lab, U.S. business magazine Fast Company has now issued a ranking of the “Ten Most Innovative Companies in Russia.”

Unsurprisingly, Yandex and Kaspersky Lab top this new ranking, which is dominated by IT companies.

Among them is Abbyy, ranked 3rd, a provider of document conversion, data capture, and linguistic software and services.

M2M Telematics, ranked 6th, has been noted for its ambition “dominate the chip market for Glonass,” according to Fast Company.

Optogan, ranked 7th,is praised for “building a full-scale manufacturing facility in St. Petersburg that will be able to produce 360 million of its patented high-brightness light emitting diodes (LEDs) every year.”

The magazine also hails Mikron’s know-how to fine-tune smart cards. “Mikron makes the scannable chips used in everything from passports to subway tickets,” notes Fast Company. “It has developed the full production chain of these cards in Russia, delivering them to most of the former Soviet states, China, and parts of Southeast Asia.”

The other ranked companies are nanotechnologies state corporation Rusnano, state atomic energy corporation Rosatom, aircraft engine manufacturer NPO Saturn and oil company Lukoil.
