Leading social network users offers personalized credit card

Tinkoff Credit System, a Russian bank specializing in consumer credit, and Odnoklassniki.ru, a leading Russian social networking site, have launched a social application allowing users to apply for co-branded credit cards.

The online procedure requires basic passport and work-related personal data. Card applicants are offered the possibility to personalize the design of their credit card. In case of approval, users will receive the card by post. The card offers a 300,000 ruble ($10,340) credit limit.

Cardholders automatically acquire bonuses in the form of Odnoklassniki virtual currency with each purchase using the card, or by recommending the card to their contacts on the site.

This is the first deal of this kind on the Russian Internet, say the companies. However, while on-line application offers convenience, the approval procedure and credit conditions look essentially the same as for ordinary credit cards.

Odnoklassniki.ru, which belongs to LSE-listed Mail.Ru Group, claims over 50 million members.
