NIS deploys GLONASS-supported traffic accident alert system throughout Russian regions

Russian national navigation services provider Navigation Information Systems (NIS) has signed agreements with authorities of the Novgorod, Pskov and Kamchatka regions as well as the Republic of Chuvashia in order to deploy ERA-GLONASS, a real time satelite based system for alert and response to traffic accidents.

The system is designed to work with multifunctional satellite receivers produced in Russia as well as specially designed digital navigation maps integrated into the country’s unified digital mapping system.

Similar agreements have already been signed with a number of other Russian regions.

NIS is a national navigation services provider promoting the commercialization of GLONASS-based technologies on international markets. NIS is a joint project between Russian Space Systems, a subsidiary of the Russian Federal space agency Roscosmos and Sistema, a financial corporation involved in a variety of industries in Russia and other former Soviet republics.

An international conference dedicated to ERA-GLONASS will be held on March 1, 2011, at the Renaissance Hotel in Moscow.
